About The Christian Church

What Do We Believe?

In the Christian Church:

We affirm that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the Living God and we confess him as Lord and Savior.

We affirm Baptism by Immersion.  Although we recognize baptism by other means, we practice baptism by immersion. In baptism the old self-centered life is set aside, and a new life of trust in God begins.  As Paul reminds us in Romans 6:3-4:

“Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

We affirm open Communion.  The Lord’s Supper or Communion is celebrated in weekly worship (as well as at other times).  It is open to all who believe in Jesus Christ.

We affirm the oneness of the church.  All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common witness and service.

We affirm the ministry of all believers.  Both ministers and lay persons lead in worship, in service and in spiritual growth.

We affirm freedom of belief.  Disciples are called together around the belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.  Believers are free to follow their consciences guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, and through study and prayer and strive to extend this freedom of belief to others.
